Will the existing switches still work?

Does a retrofit smart home stop working without internet?
That depends on the platform. Local switches should continue to operate, and professionally designed scenes may run through a local controller or hub. Cloud-only features, remote access and some voice assistants may be unavailable during an internet outage. Ask the integrator to demonstrate local operation before handover.
